In 2005, the Biomechanics and Implant Technology Research Laboratory (FORBIOMIT) (Head: Prof. Dr. med. Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Bader) was established at the Department of Orthopaedics. The research is focussed on biomechanical topics, behaviour of implants and endoprostheses as well as their interactions with biologic tissues.
Current projects include basic research on bone regeneration, biomechanics, technical orthopaedics and surface technology as well as applied research on endoprosthetic and osteosynthetic treatments. In cooperation with industrial partners, new implants are being tested and solutions for endoprosthetic treatments are being developed. Within these projects, trainees, diplomates from different faculties and medical doctorate students are being trained.
